Extravaganza (Spring and Fall)

May 18–20, 2012 at Wild River State Park

Our spring "welcome & check us out" trip!

Typical activities are, hiking, biking, paddling, rock climbing, nature appreciation and education walks for plants, wildlife, stars … how can we accommodate all levels for so many different activities? Because we make it so! And if you want to try out something you've never done before — never worry, because we will be providing free loaner gear (e.g., for climbing, paddling and camping) from the Rovers equipment collection. And after so much fun activity we like to sit down to enjoy good food, music, yarns and other follies around the fireside or go for a quiet meander under the star light.

We'll be camping in a group camp setting. Saturday dinner and Sunday breakfast will be provided. The deadline for the sign up and to give us your check is Tuesday, May 8 at the Rovers meeting (1st outdoor meeting of 2012 at Como Park. We will coordinate carpooling and potentially a cook-off for Friday.

You are welcome to join us for all three days or just for a couple of hours, but you don't want to miss it. Please e-mail us with any questions.

Volunteers are needed to organize activities, cook meals, and clean up afterward.

Think Green: In order to reduce the amount of waste, please bring your own plate and utensils to use for dinner. If you have extra, please bring them along in case somebody forgets theirs.

Cost:

  • $20 for Friday and Saturday camping, Saturday dinner, and Sunday breakfast
  • $15 for Saturday camping, Saturday dinner, and Sunday breakfast
  • $8 for Saturday dinner only (you need to register for this)
  • Kids camp free if they tent with adults and get half price meals, $4 dinner, $2 breakfast.

This event requires many volunteers to coordinate meals, activities, and registration. To help with meals, activities, or if you have any other questions, contact Rosie D. & Megan C.

Gear Swap

Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. the semiannual gear swap will take place before, during, and after the regular Tuesday meeting at Como Park.

Twice a year the Rovers host a gear swap at one of their regular Tuesday night meetings. Anyone who has any type of gear that they are no longer using can bring it to the swap and either sell it out right, or make a trade with someone else. The gear is in good shape, and usually the owners have simply chosen to upgrade or no longer have a need for that particular piece of equipment. It is a great way to get your hands on some gear if you just want to try it out without having to make a huge investment in brand new equipment. And as always, it’s a lot of fun.
