Like many others, I joined Rovers because I found myself wanting to spend time outdoors, but my friends were at a different place in life (i.e., married, chidren, workaholics, couch potatoes, etc.). Intending to find others who shared my interest, I soon found the love of my life as well.

As a kid, you'd find me playing in the woods, riding my bike, tubing down the river, canoeing down a creek, or fishing with my family. After high school I spent time wandering around Taylors Falls and made my first trip to Minnesota's north shore.

Not long before joining Rovers, I came to the realization that my wandering around was really called "hiking." Next, I found myself shopping for sturdy boots, clothing and gear made of synthetic fabric, various packs to carry water and other belongings, "hiking sticks" (trekking poles), and an SLR camera and lenses.

When I first joined the club, most of what I did was bicycling, inline skating, and running. I soon learned that a road bike would go faster than a mountain bike, a mountain bike is really meant to be taken off road (and one with shocks is even better), a touring bike works great to carry panniers, and a unicycle is difficult to ride at first, but worth trying. Through the club, I also discovered canoeing in the BWCAW, backpacking, trail clearing on the Border Route Trail, rock climbing, kayaking, cross-country skiing (nordic and skate), downhill skiing, snowshoeing, and much more.

Lastly, I have to say the most important thing I've learned is that coordinating trips is easy and fun! I love to introduce others to new activities or places and share what I've learned.
