Join me for a moderately paced 9 mile hike on the St. Croix Segment of the Ice Age Trail. This 9 mile section is the western most segment of the 1200 mile Ice Age Trail, connecting Wisconsin’s Interstate State Park with St. Croix Falls, WI, using a network of trails.
A Wisconsin state park pass ($16 for daily pass for non-WI cars) or National Parks passport is required for entry to WI Interstate State Park but since I hope to shuttle, non-pass holders can park at the River Road trailhead. There is no reciprocity between the MN and WI sides of the park.
I expect the hike to take about 4 hours to complete. Please bring water and snacks, and those that wish can visit a local establishment for refreshments at the conclusion of the hike. Also, as there is some upland game bird and archery hunting happening this month, accessorizing with some blaze orange is always a good idea.
Due to the shuttling logistics, please contact me if you’re interested in the hike. We can plan to meet at the River Road trailhead at the northern end of the trail (from St. Croix Falls at the intersection of USH-8 and STH-87, take STH-87 north for 3 miles, turn left at River Road and go northwest 0.5 miles).
- The Ice Age Trail has two challenges applicable for this hike: 1) the Mammoth Hike Challenge requires hiking 45 miles and visiting 3 trail communities during the month of October https://www.iceagetrail.org/mammoth-hike-challenge 2) Trap Rock Trekkers – hike all 65 miles of the segments of Polk and Burnett counties (no timeframe required) https://www.iceagetrail.org/explore/plan-hike/hiking-awards-programs/
- I realize that some may have hike at Interstate just last weekend during the Extravaganza. If you’re interested in hiking a different section of the IAT just a bit further into Wisconsin, let me know. I also plan to organize a few more IAT segment hikes in western WI yet this month.
