Explore Frontenac State Park in winter. The park is about 55 miles southwest of the Twin Cities on the Mississippi River. Highlights include stunning views from the bluffs above Lake Pepin and hiking through prairie and upland hardwood forest. We’ll explore 4-5 miles of hiking trails in the park. After hiking, we’ll head to Kelly’s Taphouse Bar& Grill in Red Wing for lunch. Over lunch we’ll decide if we would like to hike up Barn Bluff before leaving Red Wing.

It is expected that snowshoes will not be needed for the planned hike. If you are interested in exploring the park off-trail, snowshoes are available for Rover members from the gear locker (if there is still time to arrange pickup) or can be rented at the park office. The park also has 7 miles of groomed ski trails and skiers are welcome to join us as well.
Meet at the Newport Park& Ride at 9:00. We’ll leave at 9:15. The Metro Transit Park& Ride in Newport is in the southwest corner of I-494& Hwy 10/61.

This is a great opportunity to get a jump on those MN State Parks& Trails miles for the 125th Anniversary Challenge! Then you can track your miles on the Rover Challenge Log and see how you compare to your fellow Rovers: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1BBsq1dQ6oaJSW2ojTM7Y9I7TjiiPIf4OgjRjYbl238I/viewform
