Description:

Come join us as we explore the beauty of Voyageurs National Park, International Falls& the north woods in winter! We will stay in a cozy cabin at Thunderbird Lodge on the shores of Rainy Lake, located just outside Voyageurs National park.

Activities will be weather-dependent: XC skiing, snowshoeing, exploring the lake ice& driving on the ice road on Rainy Lake, sledding, or hiking are all possibilities. Rainy Lake Visitor Center is the only Visitor Center open in Winter. http://www.nps.gov/voya/planyourvisit/visitorcenters.htm#CP_JUMP_3029028

There is a snowshoe hike w/a naturalist on Saturday, March 12 from 1- 3 PM. http://www.nps.gov/voya/planyourvisit/winterprograms.htm

There are several XC ski and snowshoe trails in the park that we will explore. http://www.nps.gov/voya/planyourvisit/hiking-trails.htm

The visitor’s center has snowshoes& XC skis available for free from 10 AM – 4:30 PM OR you can borrow from the MN Rovers equipment locker prior to the trip. http://mnrovers.org/membership/equipment

Fort Frances, Ontario, Canada is just across the bridge from International Falls. So an international exploration could be an option! Bring your Passport!

Cost $100 – 130/person + transportation. Deposit: $50.
Costs include lodging Friday& Saturday, breakfast& dinner on Saturday& breakfast on Sunday. Friday meals, lunches and snacks are on your own. Carpooling to be arranged closer to the event.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Membership is required on overnight trips (except for Extravaganza and Border Route Trail work trips).

It is the responsibility of both the trip coordinators and the participants to discover and share information related to each others’ experience and capabilities regarding trip-related activities and responsibilities.

It is also club policy that waiver forms be signed by all people participating in Rover events.
