Canoe/kayak trip on rivers around Eau Claire in western Wisconsin
Don’t plan to lose any weight on this trip. We will meet in Eau Claire Friday evening at 6 pm at the Northwoods Brew Pub. You can see their brews on the following link. They also have excellent pies. This dinner is not covered in the trip cost. Then we drive to my place in Eau Claire to setup tents on my grassy lawn fronting onto Putnam park.
Saturday morning, after lattees, coffee and steel cut oats, we car caravan/shuttle to the put-in on the Eau Claire River. (Note: You can bring a kayak or canoe. We should be able to shuttle everyone unless we get a lot of kayaks. Be sure to check your craft for water worthiness. On one of my canoe trips, one canoe had sprung a rivet and leaked.) The canoe trip is a 10 mile wind on a scenic stretch with sand bars and clear water. There are no rest facilities along the Eau Claire River, so bring your shovel in case nature calls. After canoeing, we return to my place to have pizza and drinks. Lunch is on your own each day. We’ll do a short hike, time allowing and watch a great movie on nature, Microcosmos. It received a 7.9 rating on IMDB.com.
Sunday morning after coffee, steel cut oats and the tents are packed, we caravan/shuttle to the Chippewa River for a 12 mile stretch below Eau Claire to Caryville. There is a picnic shelter with rest stops along the way for lunch or we can land and lunch on a sand bar.
After pulling canoes and shuttling, we drive 30 minutes to the Eau Galle Cheese Factory, towards the Twin Cities, to chew some cheese curds and sample some of the best cheeses, especially Italian style, in Wisconsin.
