BWCA Trip — Lake One Entry to Insula – BWCA, MN

Category: Hiking, Camping, Paddling, Other Summer Activities

Wed - SunAug 30 - Sep 32017
  • Estimated Cost: $200
  • Deposit: $30
  • Max Trip Size: 6 people
Description:

Join us for a fun BWCA trip! We enter at Lake One, paddle through the numbered lakes, past the Pigami Creek Fire and hope to land a great base camp site at Insula Lake. We will base camp on Insula Thursday through Sunday and do lots of fishing, exploring, relaxing, reading, swimming and laughing!

Itinerary: Wed Aug 30, drive to Ely, stay at bunkhouse, pack portage packs that night. Thurs Aug 31, early AM wake up, a quick breakfast and enter BWCA. Paddle and portage to Insula. Setup base camp on Insula and stay until Sunday. Early rise on Sunday to paddle out. Drive home Sunday night. Labor Day Monday to relax at home. (Itinerary could change based on weather.)

The Adventure: We have 7 portages, none of them super long, and a few lakes. This means: We will pack light, you must be able to paddle and portage, we will be sharing tents, we will supply all group gear and food (we can discuss possible gear options you might bring). Insula has great fishing, so there will be lots of fishing. We will pack light, go far, work hard, and have lots of fun! (Route could change based on weather.)

Food and Beverages: Meals are planned by us and will accommodate gluten free, dairy free and vegetarian (there will be meat in meals, somehow separated for vegetarians). We supply all snacks and lunches too. Most all food will be dehydrated. There will be adult beverages on this trip.

Trip cost is still TBD. It can be anywhere from $130 to $230. It will depend on how many and what kind of boats we need to rent.
