Sat, 2:30amSep 242016
  • Max Trip Size: 50 people
Description:

There is a woodlot at Murphy-Hanrehan Park Reserve, southwest of Buck Hill, that needs your help. This 8 plus-acre section of woods, with some old growth trees, has been the subject of buckthorn removal for the last three years by Three Rivers Park District. Before the trip date, a Three Rivers work crew will cut down larger buckthorn trees. The limbs will need stacking, and thick growths of seedlings and small saplings need hand pulling. Bring work gloves, hat, water, insect repellant, boots, long pants, long-sleeved shirt, and spirit of adventure.

Directions to meeting place (Horse Camp Parking Lot): Drive south on I35 past the intersection of 35W and 35E (south of the Minnesota River) to the first past Buck Hill (Exit 86).
The top of the exit is 162 nd street (=Co. 46), turn right and drive 0.5 mile to stoplight at intersectdion with Klamath Rd x Co. 5.
On Klamath Trail, drive 0.8 mile to 168 th Street West, turn right.
On 168 th, after 0.6 mile, drive straight through the stop sign onto Judicial Road for 0.2 mile to 170th th Street West.
Turn right onto 170 th Street for about 0.5 mile to the parking lot on the left.

Same thing with less detail:
1. I35 south to exit 86
2. 162 nd/Co 46/Klamath Trail west for 1.3 miles
3. 168 th Street West for 0.8 mile
4. 170 th Street West for 0.5 mile to parking lot on left
