Help eradicate invasive parsnip in one of our state parks by participating in the 5th Annual Parsnip Pull at Whitewater State Park, 8 a.m. to Noon, Saturday, June 24. Lunch from Subway Sandwiches will be provided. Volunteers will work in teams to pull wild parsnip from heavy use areas of the park.
We will arrange carpooling closer to the event and will need an early start as the park is around 2 hours from the metro area.
You must wear long pants and a long sleeve shirt to avoid skin contact with the toxic sap of the plant. Heavy rubber gloves will be provided.
You need to do two things to sign up: 1. Contact Ron Heck by replying to this posting; 2. Send an email [email protected] (or call 507-932-3007, ext. 226.) to register yourself with the DNR for the activity.
You can read more about invasive wild parsnip on the DNR’s website http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/invasives/terrestrialplants/herbaceous/wildparsnip.html
