Marvel at the beach with no water! Be amazed as people vanish behind a wall of water! Climb over 100 stairs for an overhead view of a waterfall. Gaze in wonder at a dam that will eventually be removed after the reservoir drains – how often does that happen?
Let’s visit two local Wisconsin waterfalls in 1 day and get in a decent day hike on Saturday, June 25.
Meet at 9:30 at my house for carpooling on the east side of St. Paul. We’ll drive 1 hour to Osceola for brunch at the The Watershed Cafe. Cascade Falls is right out their back door and down the stairs to the base of the ravine.
Around Noonish, we’ll drive 30 minutes to Willow River State Park for a 7-mile hike. The hike is hilly at times with areas of both woods and prairie with overlooks of the river valley. We will circle the entire park and eventually reach Willow Falls, arguably the most impressive waterfall in our area.
The return drive to my place is 30 minutes. We should be back by 4:30 or 5 p.m.
The Wisconsin State Park fee for out-of-state vehicles is $11, which we can offset by carpooling. Cascade Falls in Osceola is free.
Bring water, daypack, decent closed-toe shoes, snack, cash, sunblock, sunglasses, hat, camera.
