Explore Lake Maria State Park and Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge, about 55 miles north of the Cities, by snowshoe. We will meet in the morning with our snowshoes to carpool or caravan and arrive at Sherburne midmorning. We’ll snowshoe (on and off trail) and then break for lunch and to warm up in nearby Monticello. After lunch, we’ll stop at nearby Lake Maria State Park (where snowshoeing is allowed anywhere except on groomed ski trails) before heading home later in the afternoon. Never snowshoed? This will be a nice way to try it. Rovers members can borrow snowshoes from the Rovers Gear Locker. Or we can suggest where to rent them. Day trips are open to non-members, and you are invited to join us! (Note: Cross-country skiing is also an option. Trails are NOT groomed at Sherburne. Lake Maria has 14 miles of trails — some beginner, mostly intermediate — for traditional cross-country and 2 miles groomed for skate-skiing.) (Cost is for gas, lunch, and park sticker, if you need it.)
