Group site at Beaver Creek Valley State Park in SE MN. Just after the full moon, just before the Summer Solstice – so we’ll have long days and bright nights! (Think “moonlight hike”!) Never been to this park in the “driftless” area of the blufflands of MN? Neither have I! It’ll be an adventure and a change from our usual haunts. Bonus! This area is known for no mosquitoes.
Explore the park’s 8 miles of hiking, try trout fishing in the park’s spring-fed stream, go birding, or check out the playground or volleyball net. Also, the park is about 15 minutes from the 42-mile Root River Trail for biking or the river for paddling. If you can coordinate a hike, a bike ride, or a paddle, let me know. We’ll provide a couple of stoves and some basic pots and pans and a dishpan for cleaning up. If you can bring a grill, please let me know.
You bring your food, snacks, beverages, plates/utensils, lawn chair, and camping gear. Tents and sleeping bags are available from the Rovers for free, but you will need to make arrangements with the cage coordinator to reserve and pick up. Rovers membership is required for this overnight trip. Beginners are welcome, and 5 spaces will be reserved until June 3 for new members who have joined in the past year.
We’ll arrange carpooling as the trip gets closer. Beaver Creek Valley is the most southeast state park in Minnesota. Get a State Park Passport and cross it off the list! Sorry, no dogs. Estimated cost: $5 per night + food, gas and park sticker. Deposit: $5 per night. Max trip size: 25.
