Backpacking Series: Weather/Environmental Safety and Clothing Selection
The trip will begin with a discussion (roughly 45-60 minutes) about weather/environmental safety and appropriate clothing including rain gear. After the discussion, we will hike the trails as a group; pace and length will depend on the ability of those who participate. We will hike in packs loaded with summer backpacking gear. During the hike, we will stop to set up our tents and sleep systems as practice and ensure our gear is in good condition for the backpacking season. Prepare accordingly with snacks, water, rain gear, backpacks, and overnight gear (if you have it), etc. This event is for new and experienced backpackers. Everyone will learn, and experienced backpackers are encouraged to share their knowledge and experience.
Meet at the Visitor’s Center LOCATED HERE. This is not the Ranger Station near the entrance of the park . The Visitor’s Center is at the end of the road, near several large parking lots. You will need a state park pass (daily or yearly). These can be purchased at the Ranger Station near the park entrance or online.
Non-members are welcome; please fill out the waiver below.
