Biking/Inline Skating on the Cannon Valley Trail

Sat, 5:00amJun 92012
  • Estimated Cost: $4
Description:

This day trip is for both bikers and skaters; skate or bike the Cannon Valley Trail from Welch to Cannon Falls and back (not a race, but the skaters always win). We will caravan from REI-Bloomington at 9:30 a.m. From the parking lot access to the trail, which is across the river (south) from Welch, we will skate or bike (your choice) to Cannon Falls and have lunch before returning to Welch. The Trail parallels the scenic Cannon River and the route will be a total of 20 miles round trip. The trail is an old railroad bed, so the grade is mild; the surface is asphalt. Lunch is on your own and can either include what you bring, or you can eat at a local “watering” hole in Cannon Falls. Returning to Welch, I and other gluttons will visit a local shop which will dish up a favorite ice cream.

As a day trip, membership in the Rovers club is NOT required. For safety, bikers and skaters are expected to wear helmets, and I highly advise skaters to, at least, also wear wrist guards. There is a daily fee to use the trail of $4 per person (18 years old and older, under 18 is free)—inidually pay at the access site. Arranging for sharing cost of travel will be between riders and drivers. Bring water bottles for the rail.

Estimated cost: $4. Deposit: $0. Max trip size: Unlimited.
