Always drive by Banning on your way up North? Maybe it’s time to stop and smell the flowers. Or better yet, locate and photograph some threatened species! Peter and Katy from MN Wildflowers will be searching out some special flowers and have invited novice wildflower hunters to come along and see how it’s done. Then on your next trip, you’ll know what to do and can even teach others. Come put your skills into action and get a taste of true wildflower hunting. We will be searching for three or four expected species in the park. If we locate them, we’ll have a great photo opportunity. And later, we can check them out cataloged on the MN Wildflowers web site! While this trip will be focused on the flora project, there may be time for hiking and birding. If time allows, we can also explore a nearby Scientific and Natural Area near Hinckley.
You bring your food, beverages, cooking/camping gear, and chair. Bring a dish to share for a potluck on Saturday night. We can coordinate on stoves and some basic pots. Flower newbies are welcome. It’s critical that younger people take an interest in protecting native flora, so 3 spaces will be reserved until April 28 for members under 45.
We’ll arrange carpooling as the trip gets closer. Sorry, no dogs. Campsites are $47, and each can have two tents. Cost will vary, split by number of people per site.
Estimated cost: camp site + food, gas and park sticker. Deposit: $5 per night. Max trip size: 12.
