Join me for a conservation activity down in Whitewater State Park. On June 30th, a local volunteer and Whitewater State Park are coordinating a Wild Parsnip Pull. This is from 8am – Noon and lunch will be provided at noon after the pull. They need volunteers to help. They have been doing this for some time now, focusing on where kids and families are when they are in the park – mostly near campsites. Three Rovers joined them last year and, along with about 15 other volunteers, picked over 10,000 plants.
Wild Parsnip is an invasive species that when you contact it with your skin can cause a rash and blistering and discoloration of the skin. You can read more about the plant in this link: https://www.dnr.state.mn.us/invasives/terrestrialplants/herbaceous/wildparsnip.html
Everyone needs to wear long pants, good hiking boots, long sleeved shirts and gloves. They will have gloves if you don’t have any.
https://www.dnr.state.mn.us/state_parks/event.html?id=56260 It’d be nice to get a bunch of Rovers down there to help get rid of this invasive plant in a park that we frequent yearly.
If you do not want to drive down early on Saturday, June 30th, there is a camping trip at Carley State Park for Friday, June 29th.
