Garlic Mustard Pull — MN Rovers Adopt-A-Woodlot, Elm Creek Park Reserve, Champlin, MN

Sat, 9:00am - 12:00pmMay 192018
  • Max Trip Size: 12 people
Description:

Only 2% of Minnesota’s original forest remains, and the Minnesota Rovers has adopted a portion of rare remnant oak forest in Elm Creek Park Reserve. Help ensure the health of our woodlot by pulling garlic mustard, an invasive species which hinders the growth of native plants, on Saturday, May 19, from 9 a.m. to 12:00 noon. See the progress we’ve made and help give our little slice of forest a fighting chance.

Bring water, work gloves, snack/lunch, and some clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. We’ll have some gloves on hand for those who forget. Optional: Bring a lunch if you want to stay and hike afterwards!

We will meet at 9 :00 a.m. at Highpointe Park in Champlin — 10200 Goose Lake Parkway, Champlin, MN 55316 — and walk into the woodlot from there.

Non-members can participate in this day activity and are welcome!

If you’d like to learn more about garlic mustard and why it’s such a problem, you can read about it on the MN DNR’s website (https://www.dnr.state.mn.us/invasives/terrestrialplants/herbaceous/garlicmustard.html). BONUS! Garlic mustard is edible. We’ll bring at least one recipe, in case you want to be an “urban forager” and take some garlic mustard home.

Can’t participate today? Other spring conservation trips are being held on April 21, May 5, and June 30.

RSVP to Stacey so that we know to expect you.
