Join us for a fun day trip up north! This will be the fourth year I’ve done this trip (but a first with Rovers.)
We will carpool to Jay Cooke State Park for a morning hike (about 7-8 miles) stopping for a picnic lunch, then go whitewater rafting on the St Louis River. On the way home, we’ll stop for dinner at the Lazy Bear Grill in Barnum. No experience necessary as the outfitters do a great job of training everyone and provide a guide and gear.
To sign up, you must both (1) send an email/text to Mike O. and (2) register/pay for your spot for the Saturday, June 30, 2018, 2:00 PM Whitewater Rafting – St Louis River trip at https://swiftwatermn.com/ ($53.05 incl. taxes/fees.) Don’t wait as your raft seats are not reserved by me so it’s first-come first-serve. Be sure to read all the safety, what to wear and other information on their website before the trip.
Planned Itinerary:
- 7:00 am – Est. time to carpool from the Twin Cities
- 9:30 am – Meet at UMD Outpost, Hwy 210, 1 mile east of Carlton, MN; shuttle cars
- 10:00 am – Hike the Carlton and other trails at Jay Cook State Park; picnic lunch (bring your own)
- 2:00 pm – Meet at Swiftwater Adventures next to River Inn Bar and Grill, 3212 River Gate Ave, Cloquet, MN
- 5:00 pm – Travel home, stopping at Lazy Bear Grill – Barnum Exit 220
- 8:30 pm – Est. arrival time Twin Cities
What to bring: hiking clothing/footwear, day pack with picnic lunch, drinking water & other 10 essentials, clothing to change into for whitewater rafting incl. water shoes (you will not escape getting thoroughly drenched!), and a towel and clothing to change into for trip home. (People usually leave valuables in vehicles and keys with the staff.)
We will arrange carpools once we know who is going; be sure to provide your full name, email, mobile, whether you want to drive/ride and where you’ll be coming from to help arrange carpools.) No one under 18, please.
