Backpacking — Porcupine Mountains State Park, MI

Category: Backpacking

Wed - SatSep 16 - Sep 192026
  • Estimated Cost: $20
  • Max Trip Size: 5 people
Description:

Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park – fondly known as “the Porkies” – features 60,000 acres of old-growth forest, roaring waterfalls, Lake Superior shoreline, rivers, trails and ridges.

We are looking to take a small, capable group of experienced backpackers on a challenging 4-day trip. Backpackers must be capable of carrying their pack up to 12 miles a day.  Each participant is responsible for their own backpacking equipment and food.  Tents, backpacks, stoves, and more may be borrowed from the Rovers equipment locker for this trip.

On Wednesday, Sept 16, we will drive to the Porcupine Mtns and hike in approximately 4 miles to our first campsite on the Lake of the Clouds.  On Thursday and Friday we will be camping on the shores of Lake Superior and Mirror Lake, respectively and hiking approximately 12 miles each day.  On Saturday, we hike the remaining 8 miles to our cars and drive home with lots of happy memories of the trip!

Please contact me if you are interested in this trip.  Participants will be considered signed up for the trip once we confirm this trip is a good fit for them.  A deposit of $20 will be collected and excess funds returned after the trip.

We reserve the right to cancel the trip in the event of extreme conditions.
