Hello Rovers!
Let’s hike the Blue Hill Trail at Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge on Monday evening, August 24th from 5:30-7:30 pm. At 37,000 acres in size, and with the St. Francis River, over 230 bird species, 58 mammal varieties and resident bald eagles, the refuge can put on a exceptional display of “wild”when the stars align. Especially along it’s 7.3 mile Prairie’s Edge Wildlife Drive-an option for you to visit as it will still be open after the hike (til 1/2 hour after sunset).
We’ll leave from the Blue Hill Trail parking lot at 5:30 pm where there are restroom accommodations, and hike approximately 5 miles over natural and boardwalk trails at a moderate pace. We’ll be passing through prairie, oak savannah, and pine forest as well as views of Buck Lake and the Blue Hill overlook which is the highest point in Sherburne County.
Trailhead parking lot is located on the north side of 289th Avenue NW, approximately 6.4 miles west of U.S. Highway 169 near Zimmerman, MN.
