WHAT: Whiter water kayaking the Big Cobb River just south of Mankato. The Big Cobb flows into the Le Sueur River . See “Paddling Southern Minnesota” paddle book for detailed information. Page 22-23 titled Big Cobb River 2.
LENGTH: 6.4 miles. Gradient is 12.1 feet per mile.
SHUTTLE LENGTH: 2.6 miles. Put in/take out is on County RD 16. Put in on County Rd 16 south of where County Rd 35 bisects it and where the Big Cobb River crosses County Road 16. Take out is where County Rd 16 crosses the Le Sueur River.
Must feel very comfortable in class 2 rapids. A class 2 rapid may turn into a class 3 depending on recent rains. YOU SHOULD HAVE A SPRAY SKIRT. The “Paddling Southern ” paddle book states, “Notorious among local rivers, this stretch of the Big Cobb is definitely a trip for experienced paddlers, with rapids that rate Class II at medium levels. This routes a mix of fun raids and dramatic scenery.”
