Always a favorite MN Rover spot– Join us at Whitewater State Park for a day hike. Picturesque limestone bluffs and deep ravines make Whitewater State Park a very popular southeastern MN park. The address is 19041 Hwy 74, Altura, MN 55910. We will meet at the Visitor Center parking lot – West side at 10:00 a.m. Please arrive a few minutes early to use the restroom nearby so that we can start the hike promptly at 10:15 a.m. Whitewater park info – https://www.dnr.state.mn.us/state_parks/park.html?id=spk00280#homepage
Plan to hike 4-5 hours at a moderate pace. Whitewater has a lot of ups and downs on the trails so if you have not yet gained your summer hiking legs, there are opportunities along the way for you to cut out early and head back to the Visitor Center. Bring your own bag lunch, snacks, and water so that we can stop for a rest along the way and enjoy a lunch while taking in the views. You will need hiking boots or good walking shoes, sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses… (one plus – there are few mosquitoes at this park) Non-Rover members should sign online liability waiver below.
You will need to either have a state park year-round vehicle pass ($35) or purchase a day permit ($7)to get into the park. These can be purchased online at https://www.dnr.state.mn.us/state_parks/permit.html
Please RSVP in advance by email if you plan to attend so that we can look out for you. Cell service is spotty.
