Join us for the rescheduled weekly exploration of natural areas near the St. Croix River Valley, this one to a little known park in the middle of Woodbury.
Tamarack Nature Preserve is a wetland surrounded by woodlands. This bog-like “rich fen” resulted from the last retreat of the glaciers in the region more than 10,000 years ago and is now home to one of the southernmost stands of tamarack trees in Minnesota. Over three miles of trails cover flood plain and the edge of the fen, and boardwalks cross the fen and cattail marsh, offering views of hummocks with tamarack trees. We’ll look and listen for migrating birds, frogs, spring flowers, and whatever else we can find. Bogs are my favorite – we should see lots of good stuff this week!
The parking lot is located at 1825 Tower Drive in Woodbury.

Please bring binoculars if you have them, dress for the weather, and expect to encounter ticks and mud. If people are interested, we can head to a local watering hole in Woodbury after the walk.
This day trip is open to non-members as well as all Rovers members. If you are not a member, you will need to sign a liability waiver (below).
