- Estimated Cost: $5
- Max Trip Size: 12 people
Join me paddle the Cannon River, from Cannon Falls to Welch.
The distance is 12 miles with beautiful scenery and easy paddling for either a canoe or a kayak. There will be a few rocks and gravel bars to avoid and possible downed trees to navigate around. For the last few miles, there will also be people in innertubes to navigate around. The paddle should take about 4 hours since the water level is at medium right now. We will take a break for lunch. We will also have to shuttle the vehicles.
There is a $5 landing fee to use the landing at the Welch Canoe and Kayak Outfitters. The total time will be approximately 9:30-4:00. We will keep paddling in the event of rain. We’ll try to take shelter from a thunderstorm. It is always advisable to bring rain gear and a change of clothes for the car.
Please reply to me, if interested, and we can work out the details. I have one extra kayak that can be borrowed.
Other details: Bring kayak or canoe, PFD, paddle, lunch to eat on a sandbar, LOTS of water, sunscreen, hat, eye glasses floatie or strap. Closed toe shoes are the best protection since the bottom is rock and gravel.
