Join me for a snowshoe through Memorial Park in Red Wing. With a couple (or more) vehicles, we can coordinate a shuttle to do a point-to-point route from Mississippi National Golf Course parking lot to the bottom of the “Cow Path” near downtown Red Wing. The snowshoe trails are mostly on the single track used for mountain biking in the summer.
We will begin with a 20-30 minute uphill, followed by rolling hills through the woods until we descend down the “Cow Path” into Red Wing. I anticipate it will take roughly 1.5-2 hours to complete. This is a good way to test your winter layering system, as the climb at the beginning will definitely warm you up and you will cool off a bit as things level off. Bring a snack, some water, and whatever you will need for a couple hours in the woods.
Meet at the golf course parking lot at 10:00am. For those who are interested, we’ll have lunch at one of the local restaurants after we work up a hiker hunger. Email if you’re planning on coming, and if you can help with the shuttle. The Memorial Park access road is closed during the winter, so you’ll enjoy quite solitude and scenery of the bluff country once we leave our vehicles and start climbing.
