Border Route Trail Spring trail maintenance crews needed.
East end Trip May 5 to 7 with two or three day options available. Limited to 18 Hikers and crew members.
Hiking and end of winter deadfall sweep on the Border Route Trail East end just outside the BWCA Wilderness. Using hand and some power tools. Lots of hiking on the BRT overlooking the famous Pidgeon River and South Fowl Lake is expected.
As an added bonus we will install the New North Country National Scenic Trail signage on the BRT from the Eastern terminus trail head to McFarland Lake and the entrance to the BWCA portion of BRT.
This section was hit by several heavy snow storms this winter and likely has treefalls and bent down brush areas. We will use chain saws, hand saws, lobbers, and weed wacker brush cutters plus lots of clearing work. USFS chain saw training is available prior to this trip.
Vehicle based Camping at a designated USFS or DNR site along the Arrowhead Trail near the work area
Group commissary including dinner Friday and Saturday evening and breakfast Saturday and Sunday morning (two breakfasts, two dinners). Lunch and snacks are on your own. Be prepared for cool evenings and moderate day work conditions near the Canadian border.
