Come along for a hike at William O’Brien State Park! The plan is to hike the 2.7 mile Riverside Trail Loop (also known as the Winter Hiking Club Trail). We’ll meet inside the interpretive center at 1 PM where there are bathrooms available. From there, we’ll begin the hike down the fairly long and steep hill to the start of the loop. Because of this hill, I would recommend some kind of traction device (Yaktrax, microspikes, etc.) and poles for stability. At the bottom, we’ll complete the flat part of the loop passing by Lake Alice, two campgrounds, and the St. Croix river. We’ll then hike back up the hill to the interpretive center where we’ll end the hike. I plan to budget an hour and 30 minutes so we can keep a leisurely pace and stop to look at things. I’ll also keep an eye on the weather leading up to the hike as there may be some rain and snow this upcoming week.
