Description:

Let’s visit Sibley State Park over the 4th of July weekend!

I have reserved Group Camp #2 from Wednesday to Sunday, July 3-7. We’ll be on the east side of a small lake with a dock. We should be able to swim right there. Our site is marked “P2” park map.

The park is roughly 2 hours 15 minutes from Minneapolis if you don’t stop. There are a variety of activities, so you’re bound to find things to do.

Hiking: The park has 18 miles of hiking trails, with the highlight being a 200-foot elevation gain hike to the top of Mt. Tom and its overlook tower.

Biking: The Glacier Lakes State Trail is 5.5 miles away with a trailhead at Veteran’s Memorial Park  New London. The park recommends starting at New London rather than biking from the park, but you can bike right from the park on road shoulders if you are so inclined. Ice cream stops for bikers include: New London–The Deep Freeze; Spicer–Dairy Queen.

Paddling: The park has three lakes connected by two short portages. Canoe/kayak rental should be available at the park office.

Running: You can participate in the Green Lake Road Race on July 7.

Other: New London and Willmar each have at least one brewery. Spicer will have July 4th fireworks.

Meals will be on your own, but we can plan to go out one night and have a potluck one night if there is interest.

I will provide everyone access to a Google spreadsheet for listing participant emails and phone numbers, and arranging carpools.

You must be a member of Minnesota Rovers to go on this trip.
