Join is this Sunday morning for a 5 mile loop around the Blue Hill Trail at Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge in Zimmerman, MN.
Here is a map of Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge
We’ll meet in the parking lot located off Sherburne County Rd. 9, approximately 1.2 miles west of refuge headquarters, and begin our hike at 9 am. There are toilet facilities at the trailhead.
Blue Hill is a natural trail and also the highest point to be found in the refuge with some bridges, observation decks and benches to be found along the way. Its three loops are of moderate difficulty and we’ll hike at a moderate pace. We’ll traverse prairie, oak savannah, and pines and will be hiking at the peak time of the day to observe song and shore birds, as well as scattered Asters and Black-eyed Susans with some spectacular prairie grasses along the way. Afterwards, there is the option to gather for a late breakfast or early lunch at a Zimmerman restaurant.
Well behaved dogs on leashes are welcome.
Bring bug spray as there may be mosquitoes. Thankfully, no deer flies are being reported.
