We’ve rescheduled our backpacking trip to next weekend due to continuous rain expected all 3 days of the original plan. Next weekend looks to be gorgeous weather!
We’re still planning for a great adventure on a beautiful 30-mile section of the Superior Hiking Trail (SHT) which includes, dramatic Section 13, Lily Island, and camping along the Manitou River in George Crosby Manitou SP. We are looking to take a small, capable group of people who love to hike.
Each participant is responsible for their own backpacking equipment and food. Tents, backpacks, stoves, and more may be borrowed from the Rovers equipment locker for this trip.
Saturday, Sept 27th: Meet at 8:45 am at The Sugarloaf Trailhead where we leave our cars and take a 9 am shuttle to the Hwy 6 Trailhead. Hike about 10 miles, stopping to enjoy the views at Section 13 and camp on Egge Lake. Some of us will be getting a hotel the night before in Duluth.
Sunday: Hike about 10 miles to our reserved campsite on the Manitou River in George Crosby Manitou SP. We will stop at Sonju Lake to see Lily Island via boardwalk.
Monday: Hike the remaining 10 miles, through the state park and back to our cars. Drive home with lots of happy memories of the trip!
A deposit of $50 will be used to pay for the shuttle and the one reserved campsite. We have no desire to be miserable, so if the weather forecast turns markedly cold or wet, this trip will be canceled.
