- Max Trip Size: 15 people
Announcing another 12-month trip coordination challenge that will begin in January 2026! New things for 2026 are underlined.
What is the 12-Month Challenge? Coordinate an Official Rovers trip at least once a month for 12 months. Coordination means you submit a trip to mnrovers.org & it gets approved. (See Exception in the guidelines)
Why are we doing this? Trips form the backbone of what Rovers is about! We do this to encourage our membership to coordinate lots of trips!
Who May Participate? The first 15 Rovers to sign up will be guaranteed a spot in the program and be the “active participants”. The next 10 will be put on a list of alternates. Alternates will move to the active category whenever one of the 1st 15 people drops from the program. Alternates will also need to follow the guidelines until they are moved to the active list. As an example, in 2025, 8 people who had signed up for the challenge ended up dropping out for various reasons.
Guidelines:
- Send an email to [email protected] to sign up for this challenge. You MUST sign up before you can participate. Be sure to get confirmation from me!
- The trip can be any type of active MN Rovers trip (paddle, snowshoe, ski, hike, backpack, climb, bike, etc.). Acceptable trips are determined by the trips coordinator.
- Trip/Activity must happen with you as the coordinator. If it needs to be canceled, another trip/activity must be rescheduled for the same month.
- A trip report to the e-group is required following the trip. Photos are appreciated!
- The trip must be submitted at least 48 hours before the trip to allow time for people to see and sign up for your trip!
- The day or overnight trip must be posted on the MN Rovers Website’s “Trips & Activities” page.
- You must be the main coordinator listed. Only members of Rovers can coordinate trips.
- You must coordinate 1 (or more!) posted trip each month during this challenge.
- Exception to the 1 trip a month: If you coordinate an overnight trip, that trip counts for your trip for that month and for the next month.
- Missed Month: If you miss a month, at least 2 trips must be posted the following month. You can only do this ONE time.
Active participants who complete this challenge will receive a $35 Minnesota State Parks gift card. Gift cards may be used for
- Minnesota state parks annual vehicle permit- $35 pays the entire amount.
- Books, apparel and other items at any MN state park gift store
- Reservations for camping, cabins, yurts, lodge rooms at MN state parks
- Rentals offered by park offices for canoes, kayaks, SUPs, cross country skis, snowshoes and snow tube. (private concessionaires within the parks are not included)
Send an email to [email protected] to sign up or ask questions. Let’s coordinate some trips!!
FAQs
Q: Why should I participate in the 12-Month Challenge?
Answer: Because it’s fun to challenge yourself, it gets more trips out there for people to participate in, you’ll get to know other people who like the outdoors, and you get a prize!
Q: What if I miss 2 months?
Answer: You may miss a month one time only and then you must coordinate 2 trips the following month to remain in the challenge. If you miss a second month you have not met the challenge.
Q: What if I get sick at the end of the month and must cancel my trip?
Answer: You may miss a month one time only and then you must coordinate 2 trips the following month to remain in the challenge.
Q: Can I be the co-coordinator and still get credit?
Answer: You must be the main coordinator in order to get credit.
Q: I’d like to coordinate summer events but I’m not interested in winter sports. Can I do extra trips in the summer to cover the winter months?
Answer: You must do trips each month to participate in the 12-Month Challenge.
Q: I’m not sure if my idea for a trip will qualify. What should I do?
Answer: Email [email protected] to ask. It’s better to ask so you will be sure.
Q: What if I missed January and I want to sign up?
Answer: You are expected to sign up and do your first trip by the end of January. However, it is theoretically possible to start in February and use your one missed month for January (and then do 2 trips in February).
