2016 Rovers Astronomy Weekend — Wildcat Mountain State Park, Ontario, WI

Category: Hiking, Bicycling, Summer Trips, Camping, Paddling, Other Summer Activities

Fri - MonJun 3 - Jun 62016
  • Estimated Cost: $100
  • Deposit: $10
  • Max Trip Size: 50 people
Description:

During the day go hiking in the park, biking along the historic Sparta/Elroy bike trail, birding from the viewpoint and paddling along the nearby Kickapoo River. We will plan a group paddle on Sat. June 4th. There may also be rock climbing at Devil’s Lake state park (an hour away).

At night, join members of the Minnesota Astronomical Society to observe the stars and planets with large telescopes from two group campsites atop Wildcat Mountain. This year’s focuses will be Mars and Saturn, as well as various deep-sky objects and comets. When clear, we will be limiting camp fires to maximize sky transparency.

Estimated trip cost includes 8 group meals over the 3 days and the $35 Wisconsin Annual Park Pass.

Please e-mail with any questions or to sign-up. We will start a wait list once we get to the trip max.
