- Max Trip Size: 80 people
Join us for this year’s Rovers Astronomy Weekend, this time in a new location at the Long Lake Conservation Center (LLCC) near McGregor, MN, about a 2-hr drive north of the Twin Cities.
Enjoy the typical Roverish daytime activities such as hiking, biking, bird watching, kayaking and more (activities/schedule TBD). At night, when the stars come out, join member of the Minnesota Astronomical Society (MAS) as they show us the planets, spring galaxies and the Summer Milky Way!
The observing field is roughly 200 ft. from the lodge. Observing highlights include Jupiter, Saturn, Mars and a myriad of galaxies, open and globular star clusters, and gaseous nebulae! The MAS stores twin giant (25”/30”) Dobsonian telescopes on site and MAS members will be bringing additional telescopes. Feel free to bring your own telescope/binoculars if you have them!
The area in/around LLCC has a lot to offer as well. For more information see this link:
We will be staying in fantastic accommodations at LLCC. This is not a primitive camping trip!!! ?
We will have 3 or 4 people per room, with each room having its own electricity, bathroom and shower. You will just need to bring your own sheets, blankets and pillows.
Lodging cost for the weekend is just $30 per person!!
This year, we will be purchasing fresh meals from the staff at LLCC –
Here are the meal costs:
- Breakfast (Fri / Sat / Sun): $6 each
- Lunch (Fri / Sat): $8 each
- Dinner (Fri / Sat): $12 each
Or, if you’re so inclined, feel free to bring your own food, or head out to some of the local establishments in nearby MacGregor or Palisade.
- We will be registering for lodging and meals online directly with LLCC when they are ready. Please be sure to let them know if you require non-meat food options, are allergic to particular foods or have other needs.
Estimated cost: $50-$120 (depending on carpooling/meals)
Registration ends May 31st
Since we’re registering directly with LLCC, there’s no need for a trip deposit at this time.
Come join us for all three nights, or just for the weekend…
