- Estimated Cost: $100
- Max Trip Size: 100 people
Join us once again for Rovers Astronomy Weekend, back at Long Lake Conservation Center (LLCC) near McGregor, MN, about a 2-hr drive north of the Twin Cities.
During the day, enjoy hiking, biking, bird watching and more at LLCC and surrounding parks (activities/schedule TBD). At night, when the stars come out, join member of the Minnesota Astronomical Society (MAS) as they show us the planets, spring galaxies and the Summer Milky Way!
The observing field is roughly 200 ft. from the lodge. Observing highlights will include Jupiter, Saturn, the Sun, and a myriad of galaxies, star clusters, and gaseous nebulae! The MAS stores twin giant (25”/30”) Dobsonian telescopes on site and MAS members will be bringing additional telescopes. Feel free to bring your own telescope/binoculars if you have them!
The area in/around LLCC has a lot to offer too. For more information see this link:
As last year’s trip attendees already know, LLCC has fantastic lodges that we will be staying in. This is not a primitive camping trip!!! ?
We will have 3 or 4 people per room, with each room having its own electricity, bathroom and shower. You will just need to bring your own sheets, blankets and pillows.
I am still confirmed lodging costs, but based on last year’s costs, lodging should be near $30 per person for all three nights.
As for food, you have the choice of purchasing fresh meals from the staff at LLCC, bringing your own food, or heading to a nearby establishment in Palisade or McGregor. I am still confirming meal costs as well with LLCC, but here are last year’s costs for reference*:
- Breakfast (Sat / Sun / Mon): $6 each
- Lunch (Sat / Sun): $8 each
- Dinner (Sat / Sun): $12 each
* We will register directly on the LLCC website for lodging and meals, when it is ready. When registering, please be sure to let them know if you require a vegetarian option, are allergic to particular foods or have other needs.
Estimated cost: $50-$120 (depending on carpooling/meals)
Registration ends May 24th.
Since we’re registering directly with LLCC, there’s no need for a trip deposit. You can cancel with 100% reimbursement up to May 17th.
Come join us for all three nights, or just for the weekend…
