4th Annual World Migratory Bird Day Weekend (the ING Trip) — Perrot State Park, WI

Category: Hiking, Bicycling, Camping, Paddling, Other Summer Activities

Fri - SunMay 9 - May 112025
  • Estimated Cost: $15.00
  • Deposit: $15.00
  • Max Trip Size: 20 people
Description:

Let’s do some campING, hikING, bikING, paddlING, birdING, laughING, otherING along the banks of the Mighty Mississippi.

Perrot State Park is located on the Mississippi River flyway and next door to the:

  • Trempealeau National Wildlife Refuge (website)
  • Trempealeau National Wildlife Refuge (Facebook)
  • Great River State Trail (user fee)
  • Confluence of the Trempealeau and Mississippi Rivers and Lock & Dam #6
  • Driftless Area of Wisconsin with scenic hills and quiet country roads.

This offers us the chance to:

  • Hike in the park or the National Wildlife Refuge
  • National Migratory Bird Day is May 10th and the Refuge will have special programming and hikes that day for kids (and adults)
  • Bike on the Great River Trail to the Refuge and on to Winona, or to Onalaska, or road bike on quiet country roads with plenty of climbs (Trout Run Rd and Hipbreaker)
  • Paddle the backwaters of the Mississippi and/or paddle the Mississippi through Lock #6.
  • A Friday evening (May 9) bird presentation at Elmaro.

I’m hoping for a few seasoned Rovers willing to lead activities and a flock of new and inexperienced Rovers anxious to challenge themselves and try new things.

If you need gear, I will assist with the gear locker.

The group camp site has a capacity of 20 people, but limited space for about 15 tents, buddy-up if you can. Parking will also be tight. Site A is reserved Friday-Sunday,

A Wisconsin State Park sticker is required ($16/day, $38 annual).

We’ll do a potluck on Saturday night, weather dependent.

There are fine dining choices nearby at Sullivan’s or in Trempealeau or Winona.

Coordinator(s):
