Description:

Join me for a fun BWCA fall trip! September is the perfect time in the BWCA with few/if any mosquitos and cooler temperatures.  We will enter Moose River North Entry Point 16, which is popular and has very scenic lakes (Nina Moose, Agnes, etc.) and offers a variety of paddling (streams and lakes), some intermediate/challenging portages, and nice campsites.  Our plan would be to paddle to and base camp on Lake Agnes on day 1, and then take day trips to explore the BWCA.  The most significant highlight will be a day paddle to see the pictographs on Lac La Croix, plus Boulder Bay and Warrior Hill.  This is for experienced paddlers only, it’s not a beginners trip.

Itinerary:  5 Sep drive to Ely, stay at bunkhouse/hotel, or drive to Ely EARLY on 6 Sept. We will meet at our Outfitter, Cliff Wolds at 7:30 am in Ely, MN at the outfitter on 6 Sept. Ely is a 4.5-hour drive from Minneapolis.  You can overnight in Ely if you prefer not to drive that early to arrive in Ely at 0730. We need to arrive early to enter the BWCA early as we have a full day of paddling/portaging ahead and want to secure the best campsite (first come/first serve)

The Adventure:  Paddle to and then base camp on Lake Agnes (~9 miles paddling) including a total of 5 portages (1.16 miles of intermediate/challenging portages).  Given the portages, we will pack light, you must be able to paddle and portage what you bring.  Then we will day paddle from basecamp to see the pictographs (Lac La Croix) and paddle to explore other lakes. We will have lots of time for fishing, exploring, relaxing, reading, swimming, and laughing! Then reverse the route and paddle out on 10 Sep.

Gear, Food, and Beverages: THIS IS A BRING YOUR OWN EVERYTHING ADVENTURE – your own food, camping equipment, gear bags, etc. Bring whatever you like to pack in your watercraft. You will need to be able to carry your watercraft and supplies over the portages.

Zoom Planning Meeting:  We will meet over Zoom to go over the paddle plan, boat/paddle partners, and transportation, and see if we can consolidate community (shared) gear, etc.

Trip Costs can be anywhere from $37 to $186. It will depend on whether you rent a boat from the Cliff Wolds, our outfitter.

A $25 deposit is required, so I can add your name to the permit.  Sign up no later than 10 August.
