- Max Trip Size: 12 people
This will be a moderately slow walk around Lake Nokomis in Minneapolis. Since the regular walking path is not cleared of snow, we will walk the alternative winter walking path (which is the summer bicycle path) and is close to 3 miles. The pace will be about 22-25 minutes per mile, so the entire walking time will be about 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 25 minutes (or longer if there are significant stops along the way.) Dogs on a leash are welcome, and one dog is already going.
We will meet at the parking lot on the north end of the lake between the Nokomis Community Center and the lake itself. There is a canoe rack and kayak launch site by the parking lot, and we will meet by the mulch pile at the end of the parking lot (which used to be a mountain, but is much smaller now.)
The path is hard surfaced and clear, so grippers will not be required. Hiking poles are at the users discretion.
I am working on getting back into longer and faster walks as I prepare for a 10 mile hike in September, but I am not ready for that distance or pace yet.
Nokomis Beach Coffee is a wonderful stop afterwards for those interested. There is inside seating, but I will be outside once I get my order.
Since this is my first trip, please contact me by e-mail or phone or text so I can know to expect you. If you are not a Rover’s member, then please fill out the waiver form below.
