Bicycle Touring in Door County — Start and end from Potawatomi State Park, WI

Category: Hiking, Bicycling, Camping

Sun - ThuOct 3 - Oct 72021
Description:

A Quest for The Best Tart Cherry Pie

I am looking for a band of bicycle tourists to join me on a tour of Door County, WI with the important task to determine the best tart cherry pie on the peninsula. We would arrive and set up camp at Potawatomi State Park (near Sturgeon Bay, WI) on Sunday, Oct 3. On Monday would set out on a self-contained bicycle tour, carrying all of our food and gear but with dinners and pie at restaurants wherever possible. The daily distances are not large and so there would be ample time to bike and hike the various state parks where we would stay. For example on Sunday I expect we could hike the first few miles of the Ice Age Trail.

  • On Monday, we would bike about 35 mi to Peninsula State Park – at the park there are an additional 10 mi on road and 12 mi off road as well as 20 mi of hiking trails.
  • On Tues 30 mi to Rock Island State Park, which is accessible only by ferry and where we will need to walk to our campsite.
  • Then on Wed back to Peninsula State Park via Bailey’s Harbor.
  • Finally on Thurs back to Potawatomi State Park and Minneapolis via Cave point and Whitefish Dunes State Park.

The route is shown at https://ridewithgps.com/routes/37380385 and most easily viewed with a browser.
