Thu - SunJun 11 - Jun 142015
  • Estimated Cost: $90
  • Deposit: $10
  • Max Trip Size: 30 people
Description:

Join us for Astronomy Weekend 2015!! We will take over 2 group campsites atop Wildcat Mountain State Park for three nights. During the day go hiking in the park, biking along the historic Sparta/Elroy bike trail, birding from the viewpoint and paddling along the nearby Kickapoo River.

At night, join members of the Minnesota Astronomical Society to observe the stars and planets with large telescopes from two group campsites atop Wildcat Mountain. Venus, Jupiter and Saturn will be up after dark, as will the Virgo/Coma galaxy clusters…

Due to the use of telescopes right after sunset we will be limiting campfires at our sites.

The shower building is located near the park entrance. Don’t expect to get much sleep on this trip!

Food allergy restrictions will be in place on this trip.

Note that the trip deposit covers only the camping fees. There is a $10/day per car park fee ($35 WI annual pass is available). Trip cost estimate includes $40 for gas, the camp deposit and the park passes. Group food is TBD, and there may be additional optional costs for paddling outfitters or horse trail use ($4 day).

Estimated cost: $90. Deposit: $10. Max trip size: 30.

Sponsoring organization: Minnesota Astronomical Society
