Join your Rover friends for backpacking in the canyons of southern Utah. We have permits for 3 nights in Buckskin Gulch and Paria Canyon.
Buckskin Gulch is one of the longest slot canyons in the world at 12 miles with only one way out at 6 miles. The first day in the canyon will be a 14 mile challenging and beautiful hike including short climbs down (not technical) and wading in muddy pools that range from calf to chest deep. Plan to carry 2 gallons of water on the first day as the first water source is 15 miles from the trailhead. Once down to the Paria River, the pace will be more measured as there will be access to drinking water and safe places to camp.
Important Notes:
1. This is not a beginner hike. Only experienced backpackers who can hike 15 miles a day with a heavy pack will be accepted.
2. The ability to hike Buckskin Gulch is weather dependent. Any forcasted rain in a 50 mile radius may make it impossible to enter Buckskin Gulch. There will be alternative hikes in the area if this happens.
We will also spend a couple of days camping and exploring the area in addition to the 4 days in the canyons.
Estimate Cost of $800-1000 includes airfare, car rental, permits, and staying 1 night in a bed.
