Backpacking on the Superior Hiking Trail

Thu - SunSep 20 - Sep 232012
  • Estimated Cost: $30
  • Deposit: $20
  • Max Trip Size: 8 people
Description:

Leave after work on Thursday (4-6 p.m.) and stay at Finland National Campground. Hike Friday through Sunday. Exact route not determined yet but would like to cover the following area: Temperance River State Park to Britton Peak (4.8 miles) – most heavily used section. From Carlton Peak which offers tremendous views of Lake Superior to the roaring river with its deep, narrow gorge, waterfalls and glacial potholes. Britton Peak to Oberg Mountain (5.7 miles) An easier section of trail, beginning with maple and birch and ending with spruce, balsam and cedar. LeVeaux Mountain loop offers great views of Lake Superior. Return no later than 8 p.m. on Sunday. FYI: Will respond to emails Monday through Friday only. This will be a strenuous route but well worth the views. Well-behaved dogs are welcome.

Estimated cost: $30 (+gas and 2 meals out). Deposit: $20. Max trip size: 8.
