Experiance Minnesota’s best kept wilderness backpacking secret – The Northshore Trail! Used in the winter as a snowmobile trail, but sections used for hiking only in the summer. Described by the DNR as “rugged wilderness” but not strenuous. Maintained by the DNR and every shelter is located next to a river or lake with a fire pit and even an outhouse! I have hiked this trail before and literally had the trail to ourselves! We will be hiking thru the Superior National Forest and may see moose, deer, black bear, timberwolves, etc. Starting at Lutsen Ski Area down to Temperance River State Park which will be approximitaly 30 miles total over 4 days of hiking. Leaving Thursday evening to motel overnight. Friday, park vehicle in Temperance River State Park and hop on shuttle to Lusten Ski Area to hike approx 5 miles to first shelter at Barker Lake. Saturday, hike 9.7 miles with two scenic overlooks to second shelter at Blind Temper River. Sunday, hike 7.2 miles to third shelter at Cross River. Monday, hike approx 6 miles to vehicle, and drive back. Trail map and info on the DNR website. This should be a fun and exciting adventure, one that you will never forget! Estimated cost: $115 + food. Deposit: none. Max trip size: 4.
