Beat Back the Buckthorn at Silverwood!

Sat, 5:00amNov 22013
Description:

Help Three Rivers Park District “Beat Back the Buckthorn” at Silverwood! Meet at the Silverwood Visitor’s Center at 8:45/8:50 a.m. Dress for the weather (it could be chilly) and for the work. Expect to get dirty and wear comfortable, sturdy closed-toe shoes with long pants and a long-sleeved shirt. Bring water, a morning snack, if desired, and work gloves (if you have them).

Must be 8 or older to participate. Youths must be accompanied by an adult and must have a permission form filled out. General information and the youth permission form are available at this link.

We’ll battle the buckthorn from 9:00 – 12:00 noon, then head indoors to Silverwood’s Visitor’s Center (possibly the most beautiful in the Three Rivers system) for a hot drink and snack at their coffee shop. (If we’re lucky, maybe we can gather around the fireplace.) Silverwood focuses on arts and the environment, so we can also check out their newest Gallery Exhibit (Geometry in Nature). For directions to Silverwood, click here.

Estimated cost: Optional hot beverage/snack after buckthorn removal. Deposit: $0. Max trip size: No limit.
