Beginner Winter Camping

Sat - SunDec 6 - Dec 72014
  • Estimated Cost: $20
Description:

Beginner winter camping at Banning State Park, about 100 miles north of the cities. We will be camping in the regular car campground which will allow you to bring plenty of gear and extra clothes in the car so you can spend your first winter night out comfortably. The Rover cage has a couple of winter sleeping bags, tents and snowshoes.I can help you with advice on clothing and camp equipment choices. The idea for clothing is to dress in layers, no cotton garments allowed. Footgear should be snowmobile boots or better, borrow if you have to.

Banning is a fine park with ski trails (If you choose to ski buy your ski pass in the cities ahead of time). The highlight of the trip is a walk down to the Kettle river to visit the historic rock quarry and the geologic features, kettles and cliffs which have many different types of icecicles and sheet ice on them. We will have a campfire, and a group supper with a Dutch oven cake, you’ll supply your own lunches and breakfast. We can leave as a group or you can drive up later if you choose. We will split park entry and campsite fees, and the cost of some firewood.

Estimated cost: $20. Max trip size: No Limit.

Sponsoring organization: North Star Sierra Club
