This is a beginner canoe camping trip to the beautiful Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA). Haven’t canoed before? No problem! We will get together for at least 2 days on weekends, dates to be determined, before the actual trip to get everyone familiar with the canoes. Don’t have all of the gear? You can borrow some of it from the Rover’s gear locker.

We’ll be going later in the season, so there should be fewer mosquitoes. We will be driving up Friday afternoon, and staying in a national park camp ground just outside Ely, MN the night before we get on the water.  This trip will have 2 nights “on the water” in the BWCA in remote, rustic campsites with no cell signal. We will be putting in on Moose Lake, and camping on Ensign Lake, about 9.5mi. We will have 2 travel days, and 1 day to explore and enjoy the wilderness. With the potential to visit Cattyman Falls.  When we get off the water on Monday, Labor day, we will drive home.

There are some mild fitness requirements for this trip, and some personal gear requirements, like foot wear, that will be discussed at our pre-trip meeting. There is also limited space in the camp sites, so tent sharing will be required. We will be hoping for great weather, but be prepared for unfavorable conditions.

Coordinator(s):
Adam G.
