Boundary Waters Trip — East end, MN

Category: Summer Trips, Camping, Paddling

Wed - MonSep 9 - Sep 142015
  • Estimated Cost: $125
  • Deposit: $50
  • Max Trip Size: 4 people
Description:

Fall is a great time to visit the BWCA! We will meet in Duluth on Wed. the 9th around noon, and visit Duluth Pack to pick up permits& do a little shopping.
Then it’s north along scenic HWY 61 to Grand Marais. Cell phones go quiet as we head up the Gunflint Trail to the Tuscarora Lodge, our bunkhouse for the night. Dinner is at the Trail Center Lodge.
Thursday, we enter the BWCA and it’s a full day’s paddle& portage to our first camp. For the rest of the trip, we will move camp at least a couple times as we complete the route. We will exit the BWCA Monday, and head home after showers& a nice lunch.
This is a physically demanding trip. You need to be able to portage a canoe or carry a 60 Lb pack over 7 – 9 portages in a day. Everyone shares in camp chores, and each paddler will be expected to prepare a supper for the group. We can expect to encounter adverse conditions including heat, cold, bugs, mud, treacherous trails, rain& more. It is possible, though unlikely, that our departure or return could be delayed by weather. If you strongly dislike being somewhat uncomfortable, or would rather damage a canoe than get your feet wet, please don’t sign up! Each participant will be responsible for procuring their gear, and checking out gear from the locker if needed. Cooking gear / water filtration / fire making / first aid, and emergency supplies will be provided. Trip participation is at the discretion of the trip coordinator.
