Breakfast and Hiking at Afton State Park

Sun, 5:00amOct 132013
Description:

Meet at Sail Away Cafe in Afton at 9:00 a.m. for breakfast (optional) or 9:45 a.m. to arrange carpooling into Afton State Park (this will save $5 for people who don’t have a state park sticker). I have a sticker and can carry 4 passengers.

Or, meet at 10:00 a.m. in Afton State Park at the FIRST parking area. The road to the parking lot is a little long, but keep going and you’ll see parking on your right. I have a blue Subaru Outback and I will open my tailgate so I’m easy to spot.

10:10 a.m. – Start Hiking! Trails are hilly and mostly unpaved. Wear hiking boots. The longer loop is around 7-7.5 miles and will take about 3 hours. A shorter loop of about half that distance is possible that would take about 1.5 hours. We will take a break at the swimming beach (you can swim if you’re daring).

Bring: Water, snack/lunch, hiking boots, $5 vehicle fee (or annual sticker) if you’re driving into the park. Optional post-hike ice cream/socializing at Selma’s Ice Cream Parlour in Afton. This trip is open to non-members. Friendly dogs are allowed.

Estimated cost: $0 to $5 (plus optional breakfast and/or ice cream). Max trip size: None.
