- Max Trip Size: 10 people
Let’s meet at 8:30 at the Lumberyard restaurant in Afton, MN for a big breakfast, and then head to Afton State Park for hiking and swimming on Sunday, June 6. I’m guessing we’ll get to the park and start hiking at 10:15-10:30 a.m. I have a table for 10 reserved for breakfast at the restaurant, so this trip is limited to 10 people. Pro tip: Park in back of the restaurant by the post office trucks and enter through the back door.
It will be warm, so I’ll find a route that’s not too grueling and shaded by trees. I’ll do some research and share more details with participants as the date approaches.
Plan to hit the beach on the St. Croix River at the end of our hike, so either bring your swim suit or wear it underneath. Please bring plenty of water and/or a beverage of some sort. For a cool drink at the beach, soft-sided coolers are small enough to fit in a backpack and keep your beverage cold. Maybe also bring a towel to sit on, unless you have one of those fancy, super small, lightweight, tripod camp chairs you can bring along in your pack. There are some vault toilets near the beach that can serve as changing rooms. Please bring a snack/lunch also for our beach socializing before we head home.
Note that if you can’t make it to breakfast, you can still meet us at the park for hiking. We’ll have to coordinate timing via texting to ensure we find you so you can join us. We’ll start hiking from the visitor center.
Note this day trip is open to non-Rovers members.
