Please join us for camping, hiking, paddling, mountain biking, swimming, and fishing at McCarthy Beach State Park, located well off-the-beaten-path about 200 miles from the Twin Cities. There are 18 miles of hiking trails and easy access to both Side and Sturgeon Lake right from the campground. This park features a great beach, several lakes, hilly topography, steep-sided ridges, and large stands of majestic red and white pines. We have 2 campsites reserved. Please be prepared to share a tent. I lived near this park from 2005-07 so I know it intimately.
We’ll depart at about noon Friday, later departures are possible but be aware it is a 4-hr drive. We’ll be back Sunday early evening. Carpooling will be organized. Trip cost includes camping and meals beginning with dinner Friday thru lunch on Sunday. The park rents canoes or you can reserve a canoe or one of the new kayaks from the Rover cage; you’ll be responsible for transporting your boat. Tents and sleeping bags are also available from the Rovers at no cost but you will need to make your own arrangements with the cage coordinator to reserve and pickup. Rover membership is required. We will hold 4 spots for NEW ROVERS that have joined in the past year. If you are not yet a Rover, this means you, too. Joining is easy and just $25 per year. Estimated cost: $40 + gas + state park vehicle pass. Deposit: $15. Max trip size: 8-10.
