CanceledCategory: Hiking, Bicycling, Camping

Mon - FriMay 22 - May 262023
  • Estimated Cost: $73.00
  • Deposit: $20.00
  • Max Trip Size: 6 people
Description:

I managed to grab four nights – arrive Monday and leave Friday – of car camping at Split Rock State Park in the Shipwreck Creek Campground, and have room for a few other people. The park ranger said we could have 3 small tents but cars have to be parked in the overflow lot. There is a maximum of 6 people per campsite if you double up in your tent. Plan to provide all your own gear, tent, and food. It is a site with electricity and there is modern restroom building with showers. I have my own tent, sleep alone, and will provide my own gear and food.

I plan to hike in the state park and other nearby state parks. Sections of the SHT are a possibility, especially if there are two cars. If there is a rainy day, we could drive up to Grand Marais.

Gitchi-Gami State Trail runs through the park, providing 15 miles of paved bike trail if you like biking.

If you can break away and go camping and hiking next week, send me an email. You must be a Minnesota Rovers member for overnight trips.

Cost will vary by number of people going. If there is one other camper then campsite cost is $73.50 each; if there are six campers then it will be $24.50 each.

Coordinator(s):
Joannie J.
